What is...

The goal of personalized yoga is to help the individual reconnect with and develop an understanding of their own body and mind, setting them on a path to learning to take better care of themselves, regardless of age or physical condition.

Each human begins life intrinsically unique. Each experiences events that influence its physical, psychological and spiritual development. Although some basic principles of establishing and maintaining good health in all three areas can be applied to the population at large — like eating and sleeping well, hydrating and staying active — it is clear that people benefit far more from regular, attentive, personalized care.

Overview

Eleanor Hahn works one-on-one, personalizing the “asanas” (yoga postures) for each person and each session. When appropriate, “pranayama” (breath work), meditation and dance techniques may also be explored. Eleanor guides athletes and dancers as they return to their physical/sports activities with an improved understanding of the body.

She helps those with Parkinsons and stroke-related nerve loss find more ease living with their symptoms. She accompanies those in recovery from conditions including burn-out or breast cancer surgery. She supports mothers-to-be throughout their pregnancy and after. Other conditions she has worked with include:
• Prosthetics • Overall Conditioning • Scoliosis • Obesity • Back/hip pain • Rheumatoid arthritis • Coronary disease • Yoga-curiosity • Stress Management • End of life transitioning

A Closer Look

The work begins with an introductory meeting during which Eleanor will ask some questions regarding your history, as well as your reasons for your yoga practice. Some movement may be explored to better understand your present condition. Eleanor will explain what she believes yoga can do for you and answer questions. If a decision is made to work together, she will establish a schedule with you for going forward. This introductory meeting typically takes between 20 and 40 minutes, and is free of charge.

For optimal and continuous healing of the body, a minimum of 4 in-person sessions over 4 weeks should be expected. At the end of the 4 sessions, there will be an opportunity to evaluate the work thus far and to decide whether to continue the sessions and at what frequency and format (by video, in person, etc).

Testimonials

Yoga is neither a competitive sport, nor a how-to manual, nor a guide for the perfect hippie... [In my work] with Eleanor, two main points are emphasized: breathing and flexibility, as one does not go without the other. Their combination helps keep Parkinson's at bay – it would be illusory to claim that it cures it. On one hand, by focusing on breath, it alleviates the tensions induced by the disease. On the other hand, to reinforce this defense and regain flexibility, specific poses are on the agenda... After certain sessions, I have thus been able to regain the same physical sensations as pre-Parkinson's, and, consequently, a smooth gait. These are moments that can last a day, or even a week... Above all, it shows that nothing is inevitable. And, for the mind, that's crucial. To start, it's preferable to take private classes to correct bad postures and guard against incorrect movements...

Patrick T., 67 years old, Paris

Suffering from a rare neurodegenerative disease, I have been taking personalized yoga classes remotely with Eleanor since 2020, on average once a week. I am not only very satisfied but also grateful to her for her joyful and communicative empathy and for her clear teaching method. Thanks to her talent, technical expertise, and attentive and smiling humanism, I derive deep physical well-being and lasting serenity from these one-hour sessions. And I am already looking forward to the next one...

Anne T, 71 years, Venouse and St., France

I started working with Eleanor about 4 years ago (2019) and can say with no hesitation whatsoever that she is the best teacher I have ever had irrespective of the subject matter. I am not a young woman and had hardly ever done yoga before working with Eleanor and she changed my world. Well... as best she could! She is patient, funny if you like that, very careful with those of us who have creaky bodies. She is extremely knowledgeable and responds to all questions, no matter how basic or advanced. She works with you at your level and if you want to, she will adapt to your appetite for challenges. She is the best of the best.

Feel intimidated by yoga because you have certain aches and pains or just feeling disconnected from your body? Eleanor makes yoga accessible and enjoyable because she understands anatomy and tailors a workout based on your physical limitations and needs. Over the past year, Eleanor has helped me regain flexibility and balance through yoga and strengthening exercise to improve support for my osteo-arthritic knees.

Yoko N., 58 yrs, San Francisco, USA

For several years, I have participated in both individual and group yoga sessions over Zoom with Eleanor and both have been equally energizing and satisfying. I appreciate many things about her teaching style, including, her skillful guidance; her interest in and compassion for the state of one’s body and being each time one arrives; her interest in continuing to learn and sharing/incorporating new insights and moves into sessions as appropriate; tailoring the day’s work to where one is and what one needs. She has keen observation skills, so, even over video, can help you improve your practice.  She encourages questions and checks in to see that the day’s work is addressing the goals set at the beginning of the session. Eleanor is also a smart, delightful person that you want to learn from. I can’t recommend her highly enough for either group or individual sessions.
